Premier's International Scholarship - Samantha Chan

Samantha, a business student at SFU, travelled to Denmark to spend a semester studying at Copenhagen Business School. Premier's International Scholarship - Kelsey Craver
Spurred on by receiving the Premier's Scholarship, Kelsey took the leap into exchange life in Linkoping, Sweden. A student at BCIT, Kelsey has continued to travel after her semester abroad, learning important lessons about perseverance and tolerance along the way. Read Kelsey's full report

Premier's International Scholarship - Maddy MacDonald
Maddy, a student and cross-country runner at UVic, spent a semester on exchange at the University of Exeter in England. Beyond her coursework, she joined the school's badminton team, travelled the continent, and ventured out into the English countryside (though one adventure ended with calling search and rescue!).

Premier's International Scholarship - Jillian Van Gyn
Royal Roads master's student Jillian spent six months doing field research for her Human Security program in northern Uganda. With the help of her Premier's scholarship, she was able to hire a local research assistant and stay in accommodations that became a hub for national and international scholars.

Premier's International Scholarship - Casey Gray

Casey, an anthropology and archaeology student at SFU, spent a semester at a field school program in Kefalonia, Greece. From an in-depth analysis of Homer's The Odyssey to hands-on excavation to dancing to Greek music until the early hours of the morning, the program offered Casey a world of new experiences.

Premier's International Scholarship - Franz Meier
Franz, a master's student in Royal Roads University's Human Security and Peacebuilding program, spent six months working for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Nepal. During Franz's internship, he designed materials to improve emergency preparedness in the Kathmandu Valley and contributed to ongoing peacebulding efforts. Franz gained valuable global perspective--and so did his four children, who accompanied him to Nepal. Read Franz's full report

Premier's International Scholarship - Yilin Wang
Yilin studied abroad for two semesters at the University of Edinburgh - and the City of Literature was a perfect fit for the student of creative writing! She walked in the footsteps of Scotland's great authors, attended literary events around the UK, and learned a lot about herself in the process.

Premier's International Scholarship - Nellie Gossen 

UBC student Nellie Gossen studied abroad at Humboldt Universitat in Berlin, Germany. She improved her German and travelled around Europe, but chance encounters and meeting new friends were some of her favourite moments. She plans to return to Berlin when she graduates for futher studies.

Premier's International Scholarship - Corinne Baerg 

Corinne spent a semester at the prestigious institution Sciences Politiques in Paris in 2013. A law student at UBC, Corinne valued the opportunity to gain global perspectives from students from all over the world -- and had plenty of opportunity to practice her French! She aims to take her language skills, intercultural learnings, and lessons from travel into a career in international human rights and criminal law. Read Corinne's full report

Premier's International Scholarship - Victoria More

Victoria, a law student at the University of Victoria, spent a semester at the National University of Singapore. "During my exchange term, I learned more about a field of law in which I wish to base my career," she writes. But that's not all she did: "I climbed mountains and volcanoes. I explored ancient temples of the Pagan dynasty by bike. I hiked through rice paddies in Northern Vietnam. I met people entering the legal profession in countries from most of the continents in the world." Victoria plans to pursue a career in international and human rights law; her ultimate goal is to work in The Hague.

Premier's International Scholarship - Christopher Coxson 
Christopher Coxson spent most of 2013 studying in Hobart, Australia, at the University of Tasmania. A chemistry major at the University of Northern British Columbia, Chris spent much of his academic year on an undergraduate research project on ocean chemical processes. He joined a research cruise to the Sub-Antarctic Zone; spent time learning to scuba dive; and trained for his first half-marathon. Studying abroad comes with challenges, rewards, and surprises, he writes: "As I learned, very little is guaranteed, except an absolutely incomparable learning experience and one heck of an adventure."

Premier's International Scholarship - Kathleen Fryer
In January 2014, Kathleen Fryer, a student at the University of the Fraser Valley, began a study-abroad term in Lille, France at Sciences Po. During her semester, she developed her French-language skills, gained perspective on international and European politics, and even represented Canada at a G20 Youth Forum in Germany.

Julia Ufimzeff spent a semester abroad studying international business in Vienna, Austria, with the help of a 2013 Premier's International Scholarship. Teresita Aristizaba, one of 20 Premier's International Scholarship recpients in 2013, recently returned from a four-month exchange semester in Paris, France. A fourth-year Commerce student at the University of British Columbia, Teresita especially enjoyed visiting the Basque region and improved her French language skills dramatically while studying abroad. Premier's International Scholarship - Celia White

Last summer, Celia White spent three and a half months in India as a part of her Global Studies and Antropology program at Vancouver Island University. Working as an intern on Navdanya's Conservation Farm, Bija Vidyapeeth, she participated in four main projects: a School-Art Project, a Garden-Outreach Project, a Library Project, and daily farm work. Katie DurvinKatie Durvin is in her final semester of Global Studies & Economics at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo. From May to August this summer she had the opportunity to intern in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi with the World University Service of Canada as part of her Global Studies program.
